Work visa

Those wishing to work in Lithuania must obtain a national D visa (otherwise known as a work visa). This kind of visa is granted for a period of no longer than 12 months, therefore, in order to work continuously in Lithuania, it is necessary to submit an application and the necessary documents for a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania in due time (3–4 months before the expiration of the current national visa).

Temporary residence permits in Lithuania

Those who intend to stay in Lithuania for no longer than a year can obtain a national visa.

Those who wish to stay and work longer should get a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania. A national visa (otherwise known as a waiting visa) may be issued for the period of examination of the application for a temporary residence permit.

If the residence permit was issued on the basis of employment, the employer must inform the Migration Department within 7 business days after the end of the employment relationship. The Migration Department cancels the foreigner’s residence permit and then the foreigner must leave Lithuania.
